Robert Greene put it bluntly in The 48 Laws of Power. Being ignored is worse than being criticised.
Most small businesses are invisible. Not because they’re bad. Because they’re quiet.
Here’s how to fix that without spending a cent.
1. Show your face.
People buy from people. Post a photo of you, your team, your van, your messy workbench. A real face gets 10 times the attention of a stock photo.
2. Have an opinion.
“We offer quality service” says nothing. “Here’s why I’d never use cheap paint on a front door” gets people talking. Pick a side. Say it out loud.
3. Show the work, not just the result.
Before and after. Behind the scenes. The mistake you fixed for a customer. People love seeing how things get done.
4. Turn up in the same place, again and again.
Post three times a week for three months. Comment in local groups. Be the name people keep seeing. Familiarity builds trust before anyone ever picks up the phone.
5. Make your customers the story.
Share their wins, tag them, thank them publicly. They’ll share it, and their friends will see you.
You don’t need to be the best in your town. You need to be the one people remember.
What’s one thing you’ve done that got your business noticed?
